A silver-plated commutator provides the transformer with a smooth linear output free from waveform distortion. A commutator periodically reverses the current direction between the rotor and the external circuit. Overload protection is built into the device, and it has a low operating torque and low magnetising current for efficient operation. This variable transformer is designed for either surface, floor or wall mounting. This is easy using the screw terminals provided.
